Covid-19 | New Scientist

Don't let COVID-19 get you down, rent a dumpster today!!

What is COVID-19?

Coronavirus disease is also known as COVID-19, it is an infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). This disease has spread worldwide causing a pandemic. It was first identified in China and continued to spread from there. The virus can be lethal if not treated or prevented. The common  symptoms include: fever, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath and if these symptoms go untreated they can develop into more serious diseases like pneumonia, and multi-organ failure. The incubation period is 14 days, so if you are thought to have been in contact it is best to quarantine yourself to limit the spread of infection. The virus the spread via direct contact, often by small droplets of mucous from coughing, sneezing or talking. COVID can also be spread via surfaces. It is recommended if you are thought to have come into contact or show symptoms to go to the doctor and get tested so you are more aware. To prevent the spread you should wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and keep social distance from anyone. Some people go as far as wearing masks, gloves, and suits to help prevent them from becoming infected. There are no current vaccine for this virus but the healthcare workers are able to treat symptoms and relieve pain.

What should I do?

It is recommended to stay home and stay away from people as much as possible. Businesses have had to shut down unless considered essential. This takes a toll on everyone affected. People are having to stay put in their homes all day, and not knowing what to do to be productive and active. You could go for walks or jogs but that is only entertaining for so long. You might as well get a start on summer clean-out! To help yourself stay sane and active, you can clean your shed, garage, attic, or more and get rid of old junk. You could even remodel your home. Whatever it is that you would like to do make sure you know which dumpster company you want to rent from to dispose of all of your junk. Rent from us, Bin There Dump That, we have amazing rates and NO hidden fees!

Recycling & Disposing of Batteries

Recycling & Disposing of Batteries

Simply put, a battery is a storage unit for electrical energy. With so many uses in the home, it's important to know which batteries can safely be thrown away in your household trash, and which batteries should be recycled or properly disposed of.

Single Use Batteries

Single use batteries are the most common batteries in your home. They can be found throughout your house in remotes, flashlight, toys, etc. These types of batteries have been deemed non-hazardous and can be thrown into your trash can, in all states, except California, where it is illegal to thrown away any type of battery in your household trash. Recycling single use batteries is an option, although it is not cost free.

Rechargeable Batteries

Rechargeable batteries are also quite common in households. They can be found in cameras, power tools, laptops, and most commonly, cell phones. These batteries contain hazardous materials and should be disposed of properly. There are a few different types of rechargeable batteries. Nickel metal hybrid and nickel cadmium batteries are found in electronics such as cameras, cordless phones and two-way radios. Lithium-ion batteries are found in portable devices such as cellular phones and lap tops. Small sealed lead acid batteries are less commonly found in the home, they are in items such as emergency exit signs, mobility scooters, and security systems. All of these batteries can, and should, be recycled. This can be done at no cost to you.

Car Batteries

Old car batteries, especially lead-acid batteries, contain a lot of toxic chemicals. If a battery is irresponsibly thrown away at a landfill and left to rot in the ground, it will contaminate the soil with lead, acids and non biodegradable plastics. Lead is a particularly harmful element, not only highly toxic but also very difficult to clean up, having lasting effects in the environment. If you are getting a new battery installed, most shops will take the old battery for you.  Sometime these locations will charge you a core charge on the new battery for the old one or if you bring them a old battery (without exchange) they will give you an in store credit.  If you are replacing the battery yourself, you will need to find a recycling facility who will accept the batteries. Most recycling facilities charge a small fee.

Why Is It Important?

Some batteries have potentially toxic metals in them. Ensuring that these metals do not end up in landfills prevent the toxic metals from leaking and polluting our water. Keeping our environment healthy, keeps us healthy!

Where Can I Recycle?

Most local and private transfer stations will accept batteries to be recycled, but they may charge a fee..  Also the big name hardware stores have drop off boxes.  Two websites to find a location near you are Call2Recycle and Energizer Batteries

What Is Labor Day?

Labor Day was created in the late 19th century by the labor movement and became a federal holiday in 1894.

At the height of the Industrial Revolution, the average United States citizen was working 12 hour days and seven day weeks in order to survive. Children as young as 5 had to work in mills, factories, and mine, despite restrictions. The children earned merely a fraction of what the adults would earn. The workers, particularly the very poor, faced extremely dangerous work situations, with no access to fresh air, clean facilities, and breaks. Around this time, in the late 18th century, labor unions grew more prominent and vocal. The began organizing rallies and would help workers form strikes to protest the poor conditions and the awful hours and pay workers would receive. Unfortunately, many of these events turned violent, including the infamous Haymarket Riot of 1886, which cost several Chicago policemen their lives. On September 5th, 1882, 10,000 workers took unpaid time off to march from City Hall to Union Square in New York City, holding the very first Labor Day parade in United States History.

Today, many of us celebrate with a day of relaxation. Parades, parties, BBQs and more. However you celebrate, thank you for your hard work and enjoy your labor day!

How To Load a Level Dumpster

HOW TO LOAD A LEVEL DUMPSTER

  (HINT: It's not like that!)

WHAT IS A LEVEL LOAD?

It's pretty self explanatory. It's a load-that's level. Meaning there is nothing that goes over the top of a bin. Example, don't place a 8 ft tall basketball goal standing up in the dumpster!

WHY IS A LEVEL LOAD IMPORTANT?
1. SAFETY. When you are driving down the highway behind a truck with a full dumpster on it you do not want things flying off hitting your car! It could cause damage to cars but more importantly, it could cause wrecks.

Also, if anything flies out of the bin and onto the road, a car could run over the debris also causing wrecks.

2. LOW HANGING WIRES. If there are items over the top of a dumpster that has to drive under low hanging wires, it could cause damage and be dangerous.

LAW REGARDING LEVEL DUMPSTERS
Public Safety Commission, Hopper, GA. 404-559-6613.

Securing Loads on Vehicles No vehicle shall be driven or moved on any public road unless such vehicle is constructed or loaded or covered so as to prevent any of its load from dropping, escaping, or shifting in such a manner as to create a safety hazard; however, this code section shall not prohibit the necessary spreading of any substance in public road maintenance or construction operations. No person shall operate, or load for operation, on any public road any vehicle with any load unless said load and any covering thereon is securely fastened so as to prevent said covering or load from becoming loose, detached or in any manner becoming a hazard to other users of the public road. Nothing in this code section nor any regulations based thereon, shall conflict with federal, or Georgia Public Service Commission, or Georgia Board of Public Safety regulations applying to the securing of loads on motor vehicles. The provisions of subsection (b) of this Code section and regulations based thereon shall not apply to vehicles carrying silage from field to storage and storage to feedlot or vehicles or equipment carrying unginned cotton. 40-6-254 Transport of unsecured load; penalty No person shall operate any motor vehicle with a load on or in such vehicle unless the load on or in such vehicle is adequately secured to prevent the dropping or shifting of such load onto the roadway in such a manner as to create a safety hazard.? Any person who operates a vehicle in violation of this Code section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

In short, it's against the law to travel with a dumpster that has no tarp.

OUR EQUIPMENT
Bin There Dump That provides tarps! All you have to do is keep your load level and we handle the rest!

Landfills and transfer stations will not allow a truck with an uncovered bin to dump at their facility.

HOW DO WE ENSURE A LEVEL LOAD
When we come up pick up our dumpster, we inspect the contents, make sure the doors are able to close and securely locked and make sure it is a level load.

We look for anything above the rim of the bin. If possible, we adjust the debris to try and make it all fit without having to remove any items.
If the bin is considered unsafe to travel with, we must leave the bin so it can be offloaded.

HOW TO PREVENT GOING OVER THE RIM

Plan your load. Make sure you order the proper size dumpster.

Use the double doors to help place the large, bulky items on the bottom. Small items last, Organize the load. Do not load over the rim!

Father's Day

In 1911, 1912 and 1915 three different attempts were made the establish Fathers Day as a holiday. They all failed. It wasn't until 1966 that President Lyndon B Johnson issued a proclamation honoring fathers, designating the 3rd Sunday in June as Father's Day. In 1972, Richard Nixon signed it into law and it was made a permanent holiday. A well-deserved holiday.

With all the work mothers do and the praise they receive, sometimes the hard work that dads put in might get overlooked. Not today.

Today take the time to thank your dad. For all the hard work. For all the long, exhausting days at work then coming home to be dad. To help with homework. To fix your bike. To chase you around the yard. To help mom with dinner. To tucking you in and reading you a bedtime story. Or to carrying us to our beds when we fall asleep on the couch.

Thank you for all the behind-the-scenes work that we never notice as children. Paying bills, changing the oil, cutting the grass, spending 40 hours a week at a place you may not want to be.  Thank you for teaching us to appreciate and love. As much as I owe mom for molding me into who I am today, I owe you just the same.

Thank you, Dad.

Memorial Day

Initially observed in 1868, Memorial Day is a federal holiday remembering and honoring those who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Once known as Decoration Day, this day originally honored only those lost while fighting the Civil War. During World War 1, the United states found itself in a major conflict, evolving the holiday to commemorate American military who have lost their lives in any war.

Memorial Day is considered the start of the summer season. Many cities across the United States host parades in honor of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Some of the largest parades take place in Washington D.C., Chicago and New York. Many Americans also observe Memorial Day by visiting and taking flowers to cemeteries and memorials.

However you spend your day, take a minute to think about and thank every lost loved one that passed defending our country. We THANK YOU and your families!

Can I place a dumpster in the street in Morrow?

Can I place a dumpster in the street in Morrow?

What is allowed?

Renting a dumpster for medium to large home clean-outs and other projects is an excellent idea. We are very flexible about where we set our dumpsters, however, we still must comply with city, county and state laws. If the driveway is large enough we can almost always place a dumpster on private driveways, and parking areas. Some cities or counties will allow dumpsters to be placed on a curb or in city streets either with or without a permit, however, there are some that do not allow dumpsters to be placed anywhere besides private property.

What is not allowed?

The city of Morrow does not allow dumpsters to be placed on any public property. This is to keep its citizens safe. When dumpsters are placed on streets they can become a hazard by creating blind spots.  Keeping dumpsters on private property also helps to prevent unlawful dumping. Although unlawful dumping may not seem like an issue to the city it can become an issue to the person who has rented the dumpster. When there are restricted items in the dumpster the renter could be charged additional fees and may be forced to dispose of the item(s) separately.

Where can I find more information?

For more information please contact the Morrow Public Works office located at 6311 C Murphy Dr. Morrow, GA  770-968-5497.

Easter

WHAT IS EASTER?
Easter is a holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ in the Christian religion. According to the New Testament of the Bible, the event occurred three days after Jesus was crucified by the Romans and died in or around 30 A.D. The holiday concludes "The Passion of The Christ", a series of events and holidays that begin with lent. Lent is a 40-day period of fasting, sacrifice and prayer. The 40 day period ends with Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Although this holiday is of high religious significance in the Christian faith, several traditions associated with Easter date back to pagan times.

WHEN IS EASTER?
Easter 2019 is April 21. However, every year the holiday falls on a different day.  Easter Sunday is a holiday, among others, that is considered a "movable feast". Easter always falls on a Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th.

GOOD FRIDAY
The resurrection of Jesus is essentially the foundation of the Christian religion. According to the New Testament, Jesus was arrested by the Romans because he claimed to be the "Son of God". The arrest was motivated by Romans viewing Jesus as a threat to their empire. Jesus was sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate. This day is recognized as "Good Friday" as His resurrection three days later proved that He was the Son of God.

PASSOVER
Passover is a Jewish holiday, often associated with Easter. Their connection is seen in The Last Supper, which occurred the night before Jesus was arrested and persecuted. The Last Supper was essentially a feat. The New Testament identifies the bread as His body and the wine as His blood. These rituals would one day symbolize the sacrifice that the Son of God was about to make in His death, becoming the basic ritual for the Holy Communion.

EASTER EGGS
Egg decorating may have become a tradition on the celebration of Easter in a nod to the religious significance of Easter, Jesus' resurrection or "re-birth".

EASTER BUNNY
The exact origins of the Easter Bunny are unknown, however, some believe it arrived in America with immigrants from Germany in the 1700s. Rabbits are, in many cultures, known as enthusiastic pro creators, so the arrival of baby bunnies in springtime became associated with birth and renewal, another link to the resurrection of Jesus.

EASTER DINNER
The historical Easter dinner-LAMB. Lamb was often used as a sacrifice animal in Jewish traditions and it frequently served during Passover. The phrase "Lamb of God" is used to refer to Jesus and the sacrificial nature of his death.

Spring Cleaning

SPRING CLEANING

WHAT IS IT?
spring clean·ing

Dictionary result for spring cleaning

/spriNG ˈklēniNG/
noun
  1. a thorough cleaning of a house or room, typically undertaken in spring.

Spring has been linked to renewal and rebirth for a long time. The changing of weather, from cold and dreadful to bright and sunny presents many opportunities to start fresh. What better place to begin than at home?

While some people may dread the task of giving their house a good scrub down, there are a few health benefits to busting out the broom!

WHY SHOULD YOU DO IT?

1. Cleaning helps you breathe better.
It may not just be the pollen that comes with Spring that is responsible for your seasonal allergies. Dust and pet dander are big disruptors for people who are prone to allergies. Clutters home tend to gather a lot of these in the cold months of winter. Say goodbye to clutter and say hello to feeling better!

2. Cleaning reduces stress.
The old saying you've probably heard a hundred times, "A cluttered home means a cluttered mind." It's an old belief that our outer environment is often a reflection of our inner, mental state. This being the case, a clean home should enable to you relax and think more clearly! Studies have shown that doing housework for as little as 20 minutes can reduce your stress by up to 20%!

3. Cleaning is a workout.
The more you clean your home the more exercise you are getting! On average 30 minutes of vacuuming can burn up to 111 calories! If you are feeling sluggish, 20 minutes of low intensity exercise (such as cleaning the house) three times a week can increase your overall energy levels and reduce your fatigue! (by up to 65%!)

4. A clean bedroom equals a good nights sleep.
Your momma knew what she was talking about when she asked you to make your bed every morning. A bedroom poll conducted by The National Sleep Foundation found that 75% of those polled sleep better on a clean sheet with a fresh scent. If you're having trouble catching Zzzz's, try tidying up your room and throwing those sheets in the wash!

Saint Patrick's Day!

SAINT PATRICK'S DAY

Saint Patrick's Day is a religious/cultural celebration held on March 17 every year, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick. He is known as the patron Saint of Ireland.

This day was made an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century. The holiday is observed by the Catholic church, Anglican Communion (Especially the Church of Ireland), Eastern Orthodox Church, and the Lutheran Church. This day celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish and commemorates Saint Patrick. The day is usually celebrated with parties and parades, the color green and shamrocks. Christians who attend the church service and follow the Lenten restrictions have the ban of certain foods and alcohol lifted for the day.

Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated in the Republic or Ireland and Northern Ireland. The holiday has stretched all the way around the world, too! The Saint is celebrated in the United Kingdom, Canada, USA, Brazil, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand! it is celebrated in more countries than any other national festival!

Who was Saint Patrick?

Patrick was a 5th century Roman-British Christian Bishop & missionary in Ireland. Most of what is known about the Saint comes from the Declaration, which was written by Patrick himself. He was born in the 4th century into a wealthy family. His father was a deacon and his grandfather a priest. According to his writings, he was kidnapped at age 16 and made to be a slave in Gaelic Ireland. He said that he spent 6 years as a slave until he escaped, as a direction from God, fleeing to the coast where a ship was waiting to take him home. After returning home, Patrick announced during his captivity he had found God, and he then became a priest.

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY!

HOW TO LOAD A DUMPSTER

HOW TO LOAD A DUMPSTER

Whether you are moving out of your home or completing a renovation project, having doors on your dumpster is extremely beneficial. Although some dumpster companies may offer single door bins, at Bin There Dump That all of our bins have DOUBLE doors. Double doors help with:

LARGE ITEMS. When you are moving out of your house, you will have large items that you are disposing of. Couches, book shelves, dressers etc. Having double doors on the dumpster help tremendously as you don't have to try and figure out how to get the larger items to fit in just a single door.

ORGANIZATION. By having doors that make it possible to walk into the dumpster, it makes it much easier for you to organize your debris. By stacking items, you are maximizing your space ensuring that you get all the space you can out of your dumpster.

NO THROWING OVER THE EDGE. You don't have to throw things over the side of the dumpster! When are you forced to throw heavy or bulky items over the side of a dumpster you may cause injury to your back.

____________________________________________________________________

LEVEL LOAD. Make sure that you do not overfill the bin. Per law we have to be able to secure the items before transporting and the load must be below the top of the container. We talk every step necessary to ensure we are doing our job safely.

Another helpful tip: Load the heavy, bulky items first. Getting the bigger items organized and in the bin helps you make sure you are leaving enough room in the bin for the smaller debris you have to dispose of.

Driveway Protection

DRIVEWAY PROTECTION

PLYWOOD

Bin There Dump That is the only company offering 100% driveway protection. That means OUR drivers lay down the wood before they place the dumpster onto your driveway, ensuring that there is no damage done to your property. With our company providing the wood and training our delivery experts on how to take care of your property we save you time AND money! If you use a dumpster company that does not care for your driveway,  you could be left with rust, cracked concrete, scratches etc. Although purchasing your own wood is an option, using BTDT saves you money by providing the protection! Time is valuable and we know you're busy. You do not have to worry about being present to place the wood out and make sure the driver uses it! With US, every customer gets 100% peace of mind knowing that their driveway is protected.

HOOK LIFT VS CABLE HOIST

When it comes to hook lift vs cable, hook lifts provide more accuracy in dumpster placement as well as maneuverability, where as the cable hoist invariably needs more horizontal open spaces to drop and load a container.  Deliveries and pick up are done quicker with a hook lift and do not require the driver to leave the truck, where as in a cable hoist the driver will need to leave the cab to latch the cable onto the front hook. The cable system can only offload from an elevated platform if it is the same height as the rails on the truck and the truck can back up to the platform. As for unloading on a flat elevated dock, cable hoists do not have that capability.

ROLLING

Along with our driveway protection, we also ensure that the dumpsters have no chance of rolling off of the plywood. By adding the stoppers onto the wood, it eliminates any risk of the dumpster rolling off of the protection.

HOW IT WORKS
When the driver arrives at the job site they will exit the cab and place the boards on the driveway. After they ensure that the wood is in the exact location it needs to be, they will then lower the dumpster onto your driveway. The dumpster itself never actually touches your driveway as it rolls onto the wood. The stoppers on the wood prevent it from moving from the location it is placed.
