How To Load a Level Dumpster

HOW TO LOAD A LEVEL DUMPSTER

  (HINT: It's not like that!)

WHAT IS A LEVEL LOAD?

It's pretty self explanatory. It's a load-that's level. Meaning there is nothing that goes over the top of a bin. Example, don't place a 8 ft tall basketball goal standing up in the dumpster!

WHY IS A LEVEL LOAD IMPORTANT?
1. SAFETY. When you are driving down the highway behind a truck with a full dumpster on it you do not want things flying off hitting your car! It could cause damage to cars but more importantly, it could cause wrecks.

Also, if anything flies out of the bin and onto the road, a car could run over the debris also causing wrecks.

2. LOW HANGING WIRES. If there are items over the top of a dumpster that has to drive under low hanging wires, it could cause damage and be dangerous.

LAW REGARDING LEVEL DUMPSTERS
Public Safety Commission, Hopper, GA. 404-559-6613.

Securing Loads on Vehicles No vehicle shall be driven or moved on any public road unless such vehicle is constructed or loaded or covered so as to prevent any of its load from dropping, escaping, or shifting in such a manner as to create a safety hazard; however, this code section shall not prohibit the necessary spreading of any substance in public road maintenance or construction operations. No person shall operate, or load for operation, on any public road any vehicle with any load unless said load and any covering thereon is securely fastened so as to prevent said covering or load from becoming loose, detached or in any manner becoming a hazard to other users of the public road. Nothing in this code section nor any regulations based thereon, shall conflict with federal, or Georgia Public Service Commission, or Georgia Board of Public Safety regulations applying to the securing of loads on motor vehicles. The provisions of subsection (b) of this Code section and regulations based thereon shall not apply to vehicles carrying silage from field to storage and storage to feedlot or vehicles or equipment carrying unginned cotton. 40-6-254 Transport of unsecured load; penalty No person shall operate any motor vehicle with a load on or in such vehicle unless the load on or in such vehicle is adequately secured to prevent the dropping or shifting of such load onto the roadway in such a manner as to create a safety hazard.? Any person who operates a vehicle in violation of this Code section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

In short, it's against the law to travel with a dumpster that has no tarp.

OUR EQUIPMENT
Bin There Dump That provides tarps! All you have to do is keep your load level and we handle the rest!

Landfills and transfer stations will not allow a truck with an uncovered bin to dump at their facility.

HOW DO WE ENSURE A LEVEL LOAD
When we come up pick up our dumpster, we inspect the contents, make sure the doors are able to close and securely locked and make sure it is a level load.

We look for anything above the rim of the bin. If possible, we adjust the debris to try and make it all fit without having to remove any items.
If the bin is considered unsafe to travel with, we must leave the bin so it can be offloaded.

HOW TO PREVENT GOING OVER THE RIM

Plan your load. Make sure you order the proper size dumpster.

Use the double doors to help place the large, bulky items on the bottom. Small items last, Organize the load. Do not load over the rim!

Can I place a dumpster in the street in Griffin?

Can I place a dumpster in the street in Griffin?

What is allowed?

Renting a dumpster for medium to large home clean-outs and other projects is an excellent idea. We are very flexible about where we set our dumpsters, however we still must comply with city, county and state laws. If the driveway is large enough we can almost always place a dumpster on private driveways, and parking areas. Some cities or counties will allow dumpsters to be placed on a curb or in city streets either with or without a permit, however, there are some that do not allow dumpsters to be placed anywhere besides private property.

What is not allowed?

The city of Griffin does not allow dumpsters to be placed on any public property or right away without obtaining a dumpster placement permit first. This is to keep its citizens safe. When dumpsters are placed on streets they can become a hazard by creating blind spots.  Keeping dumpsters on private property also helps to prevent unlawful dumping. Although unlawful dumping may not seem like an issue to the city it can become an issue to the person who has rented the dumpster. When there are restricted items in the dumpster the renter could be charged additional fees and may be forced to dispose of the item(s) separately.

Where can I find more information?

For more information please call the Griffin Solid Waste Department at 770-229-6424.

Bagster vs Dumpster

Paper or plastic? Dogs or cats? The correct answers depend on what you need, want or prefer.
Similarly, dumpsters and the Bagster also have their own sets of pros and cons. So before you use one or the other, make sure to do your homework to see which one is best for you and your project.
Here are five things to consider when it comes to choosing between Waste Management's (WM) Bagster vs. dumpster rental from a local provider like Bin There Dump That.

Container Size And Materials Accepted

The main determining factor for you might be what you can fit in the dumpster or Bagster.
Dumpsters come in a variety of sizes from 4- to 40-yard bins and hold both small and large items, including boxes, furniture, landscape and home renovation materials, appliances, clothes, trash and clutter. You can talk with the dumpster operator to see which size they would recommend for your project.
The Bagster is designed to handle smaller jobs like garage, attic or yard clean outs and is 2 1/2 feet high, 4 feet wide and 8 feet long. It has a 3-cubic-yard capacity and can hold up to 3,300 pounds of debris or waste. The Bagster is available in one size.
They both do not accept hazardous materials.

Durability

While both can help you clear your home of clutter and unwanted items, they have different levels of durability.
The Bagster is a tarp-like material with handles. When you put items in the bag, you’ll need to start filling it at the edges to help the bag keep its rectangular shape. You should also lay items down flat and not pile debris above the edges.
A dumpster is heavy-duty, allowing you to throw or carry items into the bin. So there’s no need to lay items flat, as the dumpster is a hard metal and won’t lose its shape.

Placement

consider the accessibility of the dumpster at drop-off and pick-up when comparing the bagster vs. dumpster rentalYou can put dumpsters and the Bagster on your driveway or yard (with some exceptions). If you want to put them on the street, you’ll need to check with the city and ask about local regulations.
You can have the dumpster operator leave the rental in a convenient location on your property. Just avoid putting it on sloped surfaces, a neighbor’s yard or soft ground. The operator will put boards under the bin to keep it from damaging your yard or driveway.
Since the Bagster is picked up by a crane on the WM truck, there are some placement requirements. The bag must be 5 feet away from structures or vehicles, have at least 18 feet of vertical clearance and be clear of overhead wires, trees or structures. You should also avoid putting it on sloped surfaces.

Bottom Line

Screen_Shot_2015-06-10_at_2.20.34_PMYou need to know what your project will require — from the amount of material you’ll have to how quickly you want it picked up — before deciding between the Bagster vs. dumpster rental.
If you don’t have much to throw out and you plan to work on the project for an extended or an unknown amount of time, the Bagster might be the best choice since the price is the same no matter how long you keep it (you pay for the Bagster and then for its pickup).
On the other hand, if you have a lot of items to dispose of and want a set pickup date, you’ll need a dumpster to hold all of the materials. You also won’t have to worry about not being able to fit all of your items in the bin if you end up with more than first expected.
