Why You Should Have A Clean Garage

TOP FIVE REASONS YOU SHOULD HAVE A CLEAN GARAGE

Storing unused items in the garage may seem like a good idea, until you need to use your garage! Continue reading to see the top five reasons a clean garage is important and get tips and tricks on how to get your garage clean and organized!

#1
RAIN, RAIN
Although rain water isn't inherently hard on your car, some elements left behind after the rain has evaporated can be concerning. Dirt, dust and other small particles can be left on your vehicle and cause your car to lose its shine.
Acid rain is defined as “rainfall made sufficiently acidic by atmospheric pollution.”
Acid rain can occur in a lot of places, more commonly found in the Northeastern United States. The pattern of high acidity is caused by large numbers of cities, the dense population, and the concentration of power and industrial plants. Not to say acid rain doesn't occur anywhere else. Wind carries pollution. The best protection for your car in your vigilance. Making sure to keep your garage clean and clear to ensure your car can sit nicely in covered protection during every storm is your best bet to keep that shine as long as possible.

#2
STAY ORGANIZED
There's no better feeling that needing something and knowing EXACTLY where to get it! Keeping your garage organized may seem like a big job but you'll be happy you did it! Having all your tools, garden tools, hoses, ladders etc all in specific places will prevent getting frustrated from having to dig deep into a mess to try and find what you need. Check out THIS handy and inexpensive garage storage organization rack! Totes are also a great tool to help you stay organized. Especially when it comes to storing holiday decorations!

#3
DAMAGE PREVENTION
Aw, HAIL! A rain and hail storm just welcomed itself to your city and you parked outside! Damage caused by hail can include dents, broken windows, cracked windshields, and if they are large enough, even engine damage! Not to mention the high winds that accompany storms. Powerful winds can cause trees to fall right where you decided to park your car. Make sure your garage it accessible to protect your car from Mother Nature!

#4
THIEVES IN THE NIGHT
And I'm not talking about those cute little ones who dig through your trash. I'm talking about actually thieves. The one who break your windows to steal your electronics, cash, cards or even your identity. If you leave your car out of your garage overnight, you may be unknowingly welcoming these lowlifes to steal your belongings. Parking in a garage makes your car inaccessible and ensures that what is yours, stays yours!

#5
EQUIPMENT
Having your garage clean, clear and organized can protect more than just your car! Creating a space where you can safely store tools, lawn mower, leaf blowers, weed eaters and more will protect these items. Having them safely stored away prevents rust from the rain, someone stealing them or even someone hitting them with their car!

Flooded Garage Cleanup: 15 Tips and Practices

Floods are among the most destructive natural hazards. Learning about the best practices to prevent, clean and restore flood damage in your home is essential in order to minimize accidents, health problems, and the need for costly repairs.

Common Causes of Garage Flooding

Flooding can be a nightmare for every homeowner. Not only is it difficult to deal with, but repairing flood damage is also a very expensive undertaking.
The garage is among the parts of a home that are most prone to flood damage. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to deal with it.
But before we jump into that, let us first talk about the most common causes of garage flooding.

Sewage Flooding

Sewer flooding can happen for a number of reasons. For instance, there could be a failure of the sewerage, too much pressure, or blockage in the drainage pipes
These problems are often triggered by bad weather conditions, such as when too much rainwater enters the sewers from surrounding houses, roads and land.
Sewage leaks can happen from underneath the garage and seep up, causing water damage inside the garage.

Burst Water Pipes

Fresh water pipes (which are located in the yard) that supply water to a house can burst, which causes the water to enter the garage from the ground below.

Flooding Caused by Bad Weather

Heavy rainfall, hurricane or storm surges can almost cause flooding especially in lowland.
Overflowing water from nearby sources, including streams, broken dams, or lakes can cause flooding too.

Repairing, Cleaning & Preventing Garage Flooding: Best Practices

Addressing water damage problems in your garage before, during and after flooding is essential.
Below are some of the best practices that every homeowner can follow to protect their garage from structural problems caused by flooding:

Identify sources of water problems

Prevention is better than “repair”. Taking time to determine sources of water that could serve as potential trigger for flooding is important.
Check your drainage pipes and if necessary, divert water from the garage. Burst pipes should be fixed immediately as well.

Install flood barrier

If you live in a lowland area, consider installing garage barrier in your property.
flood barrier is a good investment especially if your garage contains household items that are hard to replace or too expensive to just be damaged by water.

Weather-strip your garage door

Weather-stripping the bottom of your garage door is very important to prevent water damage.
If you already have weather-stripping in your garage door, conduct a routinely to ensure that it hasn’t worn out yet.

Check the foundation too

Maintaining a strong foundation is crucial to preventing flooding in your garage.
Have it inspected regularly for cracks or damage which could cause sewage line or sewer water pipes to burst.

Clean the gutters

Your gutters have a very important role in protecting your garage from water damage as they designed to lead water (from rain or melted ice) through a downpipe and out to the drainage system and away from your home.Flooded Area
Make sure to clean your gutters from leaves and other debris and repair any crack or holes. Do the same thing with the rest of your garage roofing system.

Waterproof the walls

Applying waterproof veneer to the walls will create a seal to ensure that water doesn’t seep in.

Install adequate flood drainage

Flood drains divert water path away from your home and garage. They are a very helpful addition especially whenever there is a serious flooding in your area.
Additionally, smooth down uneven ground that could direct water to your garage.
Cleaning and restoring garage water damage should be done immediately after flood waters subside. Here are the most important steps to take:

Ensure everyone’s safety

Before entering your garage, check if there are no major damage that could compromise your safety.
Keep children and pets away from the flooded area until the cleanup is complete.

Take out wet contents

They have to be washed and dried completely under the sun. Items that have been badly damaged or soaked in water and can no longer be disinfected must be discarded.
Drywall and insulation that have been soaked in water are likely to be removed and discarded as well.
Typically, in these scenarios a 20 yard dumpster will best your best option for waste and garbage disposal. Bin There Dump That has national relationships with many of the water restoration franchises across the country, including PuroClean and DKI Property Restoration

Once the water has been removed, wash the floors, walls and other surfaces with soapy warm, clean water.

Sanitize surfaces using specialized cleaning solutions, such as bleach

If there’s mold, scrub to remove it. If the mold infestation is too large to handle, it is better to call professionals for help.

How Can Renting a Dumpster Help You with an HVAC Service?

How Can Renting a Dumpster Help You with An HVAC Service

When it comes to throwing away construction clutter or getting rid of big piles of stuff, there’s no better option than to rent a dumpster. Dumpsters are quite efficient, as they can be used for a wide variety of projects that have nothing to do with dumping something.
Not many people might know about the benefits of renting a dumpster for an HVAC service, therefore we will save you the unnecessary suffering of having to figure it out on your own. In this article, we outline all the details about renting a dumpster to enhance the performance of HVAC services. Your local residential repair services should be aware of these options.

Are Dumpsters Reliable?

Believe it or not, renting a dumpster is something that many are not familiar with. For them, the straight up answer is YES. If your project involves tossing anything that a trash can’t handle, renting a residential-friendly dumpster is the best way to go.
When you make use of a dumpster service that is residential-friendly, you can expect the following:
  • Having an excellent customer service provided by the Dumpster Consultants
  • Having a totally clean, rust-free dumpster delivered on time to your home
  • Driveway protection
  • Having totally clutter or debris-free surrounding when the dumpster is picked up
Moreover, dumpsters come in various sizes, starting from 10 yards up to 20 yards. This size variation helps you to have more control over the containing capacity you need, as well as the space you want the dumpster to take without becoming an obstacle.
All of this will save you time and unnecessary suffering, especially if you hire a Bin There Dump That dumpster. They have the most efficient and quickest service, capable of satisfying all the wasting needs you have during any project of that nature.

How Can A Dumpster Service Help?

When it comes to HVAC systems, it’s a totally different matter. The worst part is that there are very few HVAC companies that can help you throw away obsolete devices. So, if an air conditioner, a furnace or a boiler ends up being replaced, the old one is still in there, collecting dust and occupying unnecessary space.
That’s when hiring a dumpster service comes in handy. Not only will they remove these devices that are way too big for a normal trash can, but they can also help you with cleaning any construction debris generated by big and complex plumbing projects.
Just keep in mind that when it comes to removing a freon-containing appliance, your HVAC specialist will need to have it removed from the appliance before it can be disposed of. This is a safe practice that guarantees safe disposal without any risk of contamination or explosion.

Do I Really Need a Dumpster?

Simply put, if anything you need to throw away doesn’t fit in a conventional trash can, hiring a dumpster is the best option. Besides, renting a dumpster is one of the simplest, quickest and easiest processes.
Your time is way too important for you to stress over unnecessary things. Wasting a whole weekend away just to go to the local landfill, numerous times, in order to get rid of the junk, is definitely one of them. That’s why renting a dumpster can save you time and stress and believe it or not, money.
This is why there’s no surprise at all that big contractors rely on these services vs normal random dumpster services. The customer service and the great quality and good shape of the dumpsters make up for that reliability.

Getting the Numbers Clear

Many would think that hiring a dumpster is way too expensive and not affordable for them. However, the cost-efficiency of this service will make you see why it is the best option for disposing of waste generated by your HVAC remodeling project.
That being said, let’s talk about the money. Renting a dumpster is the cheapest way to throw away a huge amount of waste. This efficiency gets reflected in not having to do various trips to the landfill and spending extra gasoline on the process.
However, there are some intricacies that need to be taken into account when hiring a service like this. The first one being the size of the dumpster. Dumpsters come in various sizes, and it is expected that the price varies according to the size. This makes the prices fluctuate between $300 and $550 USD, according to national averages in the USA.
Another thing that makes the price vary would be the weight. Each dumpster can only take a certain amount of tonnage. So, make sure that you don’t exceed that, as this can cost you extra.
Therefore, it is important to know the best container sizes for HVAC services. According to our professional consultants, these containers would be:
  • 10-cubic yard dumpster: Ideal for small replacements that don’t need that much space, like an air conditioner or old pipes/ tubes
  • 15-cubic yard dumpster: Ideal for larger replacements, such as furnaces, boilers or refrigerators.

HOW TO CHANGE THE OIL IN YOUR CAR

You don't have to be a mechanic to change your own oil. Simply knowing how to identify a few parts and knowing how to use a tool or two could save you some money.

To start the process you'll first need to identify the drain plug. It is a large nut or plug located under the oil pan at the bottom of the engine. Make sure you have an oil pan in place to prevent spills.

You now need to unscrew the oil drain plug. Protect your hand with a rag or paper towels (shop towels are a great option, too!) Be ready to move your hand as you unscrew the oil drain plug.

Next, remove the cap from the oil filler hole at the top of the engine and unscrew the oil filter. (By hand or by wrench.) To unscrew the filter, twist it counterclockwise. The filter will have oil in it, so be careful not to spill it when you remove it. If any remnants of the filter’s rubber seal remain on your engine, remove them.

Open a new bottle of oil and dip a finger into it. Use the oil to moisten the gasket on the top of the new oil filter.
Simply screw the new filter in the same location of the old filter you just removed.
Clean up the area where the drain plug goes and screw it back in place with an adjustable wrench.

Use a funnel to add fresh oil to the oil filler hole. Replace the oil cap

Check out these How-To videos for more tips!

There you go! You have changed your own oil

How To Dispose Of Your Old Christmas Tree

HOW TO DISPOSE OF YOUR OLD CHRISTMAS TREE

When the most wonderful time of the year comes to an end you're left with plenty to dispose of. Wrapping paper, packaging from endless toys and cardboard boxes. Most of this debris can be easily discarded. But what do you do with that old Christmas tree?

The "Keep Georgia Beautiful" foundation has an annual recycling program offered across various counties in the state. Their event "Bring One For The Chipper" is a great way to dispose of your Christmas tree. Since the program has started an estimated 5.9 million trees have been recycled. Mulch from these trees has been used for playground, local government beautification projects and individual yards. To learn more about this event click on your county below.

Another popular way to get rid of those old trees is to sink them in local lakes and ponds. Christmas trees make great habitats for many species of fish. As woody plant tissue starts to decompose a whole new series of vegetation occurs (phytoplankton and various algaes). Zooplankton (AKA waterfleas) populate on this new vegetation attracting small insects, snails, crayfish etc who in turn attract the larger species we cherish. As the saying goes, "Find the bait and you'll find the fish."

Recycling is always the best option when it comes to your old Christmas trees. Giving back to the Earth that so graciously provided you with a tree is only fair.
